In 1995, Renewal Partners provided a loan to Horizon’s predecessor, and in 1998 became an equity investor when Horizon restructured from a co-op. Today, Horizon distributes across six provinces—supplying major grocery stores including Capers Whole Foods Markets and the Overwaitea Food Group. They generate over $90 million in sales, with annual growth over 20%. They are also a significant owner in Planet Organics, a leading retailer of organic foods across North America. In 2007, Renewal Partners sold a portion of its holding at a price over 10X its average cost. During Horizon’s pivotal transition to becoming a private corporation, Renewal was a values guardian at board level. Horizon remains dedicated to promoting wellness and sustainability with the finest natural, organic, and fairly traded products. While becoming a national player, they have continued as a supplier to independent businesses and buying groups, getting healthy food into people’s hands wherever they might live.
